Despite the drama surrounding the whole Lebron James story, I was still compelled to start my 36 hour ride at 6pm on Thursday, July 8th and complete the ride at approximately 7am on Saturday, July 10th at Fuel Sports Performance Training Center in Crest Hill, IL . Stats are: AHR: 90bpm; RPM: 80.5; Tot DST: 458.9 miles; Tot CAL: 10825. The ride was conducted in conjunction with GWR rules re breaks . Four (4) breaks were taken over the course of the ride and amounted to 61 minutes. As a result, the ride actually lasted 37 hours, 1 minute. I consumed approximately 5 gallons of water, 4.5 gallons of SUCCEED ultra endurance fuel and I expelled about 4.5 gallons. Total awake time in conjunction with this ride was approximately 55 hours. We streamed the ride around the world and captured nearly 150 folks who tuned in to watch at one point or another.
The venue was a bit warm with indoor temps at about 83 degrees or so. Hour 20 was the start of a brutal afternoon, taking one hour at a time, breaking when I could and testing the patience of Connie and Kathy as they tried to keep cold towels on my neck and back and liquids in my bottles. Special thanks to Emerson, Connie, Kathy and Marcia for pulling off crew duties on this ride….I really appreciated it! Also showing up late was Chris Arnes, who has partnered w/me on some mental conditioning routines and exercises. Chris familiarized me with the excitement of the “3 to 7″ timeframe, which coincidentaly is routinely one of the tougher windows when I can encounter some brutal walls. I’ve been encouraged to “look forward to it” and have fun with it and know that at the end of the day, its whats inside of me that will determne my success at getting thru that timeframe.
I also want to thank John Bylina and Ricky for once again being a great host at Fuel. John did a big favor and had one of his baseball teams from Victory Baseball come to the venue for BBQ cookout kind of thing after their game on Friday evening which really ignited me and brought me right out of what was otherwise had been an arduous afternoon. I met many good parents and kids, who by the way will be travelling to Myrtle Beach this week to compete in a baseball tournament. They really helped me when I needed it and I wish them safe travels to and from Myrtle Beach and of coure, the best of luck on the field! Also want to thank my good friend and fellow scouter, Rod DeMaso, who along w/his wife Greta and their two sons showed up to visit me, which was a pleasant surprise. Rod trains with me and I also have been involved in preparing he and his oldest son Ben for their trip to Philmont this coming week. I continue to meet many folks at Fuel who want to become a part of the operation from a crew standpoint and thats a good thing.
The next long ride is a 48 hour ride on or about JUL 22nd…times will be announced. The ride will be held at Fuel in Crest Hill. I”ve atch’d a copy of my current long ride training schedule for the next couple months. Pls click on this link GWR V Training Schedule. Also know that the schedule is subject to change so please check my website or the blog for confirmation of any given long ride shown or simply give me a call.
Will resume training tomorrow with a light run and looking into next week, I’ve got to take Brandon to Western Illinois University this week for orientation. Andy will go with to keep me company as we get to know Macomb, IL. Well, I can feel my eyes starting to drift a bit so I know its time for rest. Have a great rest of the weekend.
