What a training week! So much going on and yet i was still able to log in 45 hours of time and nearly 780 miles on the bike and tomm (Thur) is a rest day in prep for the 36 hour ride this weekend. The training this week was indeed strong and a nice rebound from the 33 hour ride just completed. I like the way my body responds to the daily grind of the 4-6 hours that I spend on the bike often finishing up w/whatever spin class is going on at the end of the day. I always continue to be inspired by the countless members at the club that I’ve met and who have introduced their kids to me and who have a genuine interest in wanting to help with the event. Genuinely great people who believe in what I’m about to do. I’ve finished my last couple workouts feeling very “ready”, which from a coach /friend of mine in Hawaii I learned was a good thing… feeling “ready” is where i want to be and i’m so getting there more and more. Feeling much more efficient and much stronger. I hope this all contributes to yet another successful ride this weekend. Marcia continues to hone the schedule of personnel who will conduct pit ops this weekend….any additional out there who want to be a part of this operation, pls dont hesitate to let me know…we could use your help.
I also had my pre-event physical today with my doctor who has known me for nearly 13 years. He is well aware of my past events and has seen fit to give me a clean bill of health contingent on results of blood work i had done. In addition to the countless stats i keep already, Doctor would like to see me maintain additional numbers for my respiration and my blood pressure during the training rides, perhaps 2 or 3 times throughout the ride….the crew will be advised to possibly facilitate this request. Doctor also confirmed he’ll be at my side during the event about every 40-50 hours to consult with paramedics and others who will volunteer to do my stats every 4 hours as required by GWR. This will help my doctor form a body of evidence from which he can make informed decisions regarding my health as the ride progresses. He referred to it as a high performance engine and he wants to see how that engine performs during training so there are no surprises during the 300 hour ride….couldn’t agree more! Well, its late, but i wanted to post my thoughts and now i’ve got to respond to a call from my middle son Brandon who is looking for baby pictures of himself that i might have and he needs them by Saturday! Most of what i have are on slides-like who has those anymore! But i dont know that i want to be rooting thru slide trays right now, perhaps tomorrow. Pls stay tuned for additional updates and thoughts prior to the 36 hour ride. Night!

It is all about the ride and response and your body and mind are in perfect performance!
Excellent, carry on in your brilliance!
Its nice to know that kids will always be kids, no matter how old they become.
I will talk to your pit crew about taking B/P’s during your training rides if needed. Its what I do over at the hospital during stress testing, so I won’t need any training!
See you this weekend!
Thank you Amy! It means alot that so many folks like you have stepped up and offered their friendship and support….The ride will go down….i’m just waiting on a few logistical issues to be worked out, if possible, before committing to a location for the remaining rides and the April event. Your the best! Thanks! G
