March 4, 2010

Knocked down a short 3 hour hard and fast ride this afternoon, joined by my good friend and supporter from the HP, Bob Scott, who is an accomplished triathlete and trainer.  Bob is stepping up to be part of the crew as are so many others, including James Small, whose schedule as an air traffic controller will still faciliate his participation in pit ops once we’re underway.  All of this is so encouraging!!  Both are planning to drop in on us at the 40 hour ride.  The rides this week have put on track to once again get a couple good 6 hour rides in before next weekend’s 40.

Training at the new venue has been great…i can see the parking lot to my front, the sun and many people who stop and stare in the door as I jam away.  I continue to liaision with my neighbors at Grants Audio and Sports Authority.  The management company put out a great memo to the other tennants which was extremely supportive of our April event.  Nothing like getting the word out early to let folks know whats going on, hmmmm…….will try to post the memo here at some point for all to see the tremendous support we continue to get on all fronts.  The venue continues to take on life as Dee takes charge of the decorating.  We’re still in need of additional bikes and sponsorships that could fill that need remain pending.   Your patience is appreciated  in that regard.  My music system now is simply the best thanks so much to Jim Ristow who simply just does!   I even have a sub woofer and thats no ref to my mini dachsund Chips who many of you had the pleasure of meeting at the 36.   Many others continue to make contributions to ensure our comfort at the new venue and I’m very appreciative of the effort being put forth to get the venue ready for April.  For now, i’m in there most every afternoon, pls dont hesitate to drop by if you feel like chatting, riding or simply sitting there visualizing the success of this thing as I so often do when i’m on the bike alone there.

I was also asked a question this evening which I’m not sure I’ve ever been asked as diretly as I was this eve, but it had to do simply with obsessions and why I had such an obsession, if any, with Guinness World Records.  Well, i’v ethought alot about it and simply put, GWR represents the institution and standard for all world records.  It represents a mark of performance excellence second to none and a reflection of effort with regard to setting and achieving a goal,  and for just a brief moment in time as is often the case with me, to be the absolute best in the world !  The recognition comes without any compensation other than a simple certificate with the official GWR logo affixed to the bottom.   So, its not an obsession, but merely a challenge to myself to be the best in the world at staying on a stationary bike for an extraordinary amount of time AND more importantly being the example so others will know my causes and join me in raising money for Injured Marines and the youth programs of the United Way.  I hope this helps in some way to answer the question posed to me this eve while training by one who himself is a leader amongst his peers and whose queries of me are most appreciated!   Your the best Bobby!   Thanks for the push this eve and for just being there!

Well, its getting into eve now and I”m full of pasta and have clients in the morning.  More events are happening and I’ll keep you all posted.  Others are also helping me with this effort and to that end, i  want to thank Brian and Matt for their contributions on the whole social networking initiative!   In the very near future, i’m going to post a “needs list” which contains all the little things and “stuff” necessary to comply with GWR rules and which I need for folks to tap resources and friends for to see if folks can simply donate gear or help us in setting up for event week.  I have urgent need for 2 video cameras that can record this event in its entirety.  Tapes can be changed out every 3hours.  I also need help in getting the entire event recorded to a stand alone hard drive via a dedicated laptop. We had a similar setup at the YMCA and it worked well.  I also have a need for IT support as it relates to a dedicated camera that can facilitate streaming of the event to the Next Media station sites for people to watch.  So, again, your help in any of these areas will be appreciated, just let me know what you can do for us.  In the meantime, have a great rest of the week.   All the best!  George
